Diane Campaña, one of four dancers participating in the Emerging Artists Residency Program at Arts District Liberty Station, has turned her lengthy commute from Tijuana into a creative source. The residency, which spans 11 months and runs until May 2027, includes Campaña alongside Nick McGhee, Aisha Reddick, and Odessa Uno.
Campaña reflects on the ideas of memory and belonging in her work, inspired by her experiences of crossing the border. She has initiated interactive performances, allowing audiences to share their unsaid thoughts as part of her artistic exploration. McGhee, focusing on connection, aims to create a communal bond among performers and viewers. Gaby Quevedo, the program’s overseer, emphasizes the residency’s binational essence, recognizing its importance in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and artistic growth.
