The Rules Committee of the San Diego City Council has unanimously advanced two significant reform proposals focused on campaign finance and ethics. These measures, introduced by Councilman Sean Elo-Rivera, aim to promote transparency in political funding and combat dark money in local elections.
The proposals, known as the Ending Perpetual Fundraising Ordinance and the Exposing Dark Money and Banning Shadow Campaigns, are part of Elo-Rivera’s initiative dubbed “Bring San Diego Politics into the Light.” This initiative seeks to close gaps in campaign finance regulations and enhance accountability. Elo-Rivera emphasized that voters deserve to know the sources of political financing and the influence exerted by special interests. The proposals follow an earlier ordinance, the Follow the Money Ordinance, which was also supported by the committee.
