The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed updated zoning regulations for Jacumba Hot Springs on Wednesday, focusing on economic development within the unincorporated community. The modifications aim to update an outdated county ordinance, aligning local land-use policies with the county’s general plan, according to a statement from Supervisors Paloma Aguirre and Joel Anderson, the measure’s co-authors.
Aguirre and Anderson noted that the proposal eliminates legacy barriers to help Jacumba pursue smart growth, create job opportunities, and attract specific private investments. Situated in the Mountain Empire region on the U.S.-Mexico border, Jacumba has a population of 540 and is known for its mineral hot springs. Recent years have seen increased attention on projects like the revitalized Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel and ongoing controversies related to the housing of sexually violent predators.
