This weekend marks the celebration of Halloween with two unique events in San Diego. Starting Saturday morning, Scream Diego, the city’s Halloween and Horror Convention, opens its doors at the Doubletree at Hazard Center. Later in the day, at 5 p.m., the San Diego Filipino Film Festival presents a special one-night showcase of short films at AMC Plaza Bonita Theaters, featuring a karaoke ghost story and various other narratives.
Scream Diego, now in its third year, was initiated by Dennis-Michael Broussard who sought to provide a local venue for horror enthusiasts. The event includes panels on diverse topics such as creature voice acting, a film festival displaying 30 shorts, a vendor hall, a free Zombie Lounge makeover, and kid-friendly activities. Meanwhile, the San Diego Filipino Film Festival, founded by Benito Bautista and Emma Francisco, includes films highlighting Filipino culture, with intriguing stories like ‘Oki Oki Oki’, a ghostly tale about a karaoke bar worker.
